Psychology has been defined as a scientific study of the human mind and the way a person behaves. Personality is a vital factor taken into consideration when studying a human mind. Different traits and types of personality have been proposed by different psychologists like Sigmund Freud, Raymond Cattell, Carl Jung, William Sheldon etc. There are different features of personality that we tend to come across when we meet various types of people. Some tend to be polite, shy, aggressive or rude etc. Others tend to have a combination of these traits; therefore, they can be classified as introverts, extroverts or neurotic or psychotic etc.
It is pretty obvious that people like being around big personalities, people with the ability to communicate and be self-sacrificing, can make others laugh and so on. However, there is one personality trait that is considered to be the epitome of selfishness. This is the narcissistic personality trait.
Narcissism can be defined as an extreme self-involvement, an extreme need of self-validation and self-admiration. This extreme level of self-involvement can make one ignore the needs of those around him/her. A person is narcissistic, meaning, he/she has an exaggerated sense of self-importance. They are not aware of how their behavior may impact others.

NARCISSISTIC MEANING: THE SOCIAL MEDIA
As time is passing and technology is advancing, social media has made a long-lasting impact on our lives. It is obvious that it has also changed the way we think and has been involved in our day-to-day activities. Several platforms where young adults share their opinions and photographs, a sense of entitlement and gradually growing narcissism creeps into their personality and such people are prone to narcissism. Studies that have been conducted, conclude that long hours of using social media predict higher levels of narcissism in an individual. It makes them selfish, arrogant, and overconfident.
The single most influential factor in reducing narcissism in young adults is to get off these applications and restrict themselves from scrolling on social media for long hours. A world where young adults are highly addicted to social media and their given fear of missing out, deleting their accounts, or deactivating their devices is not a realistic goal. Healthy device management may help young adults to use social media without letting it hamper their lives or well-being.
